History: Here

AU History: n/a

Personality: His whole life, Lyle has been living in his brother's shadow. As a result, he makes it a point to show that he is not his brother. When he first joins Celestial Being, Lyle even puts on something of a jerkass facade in order to make this point. He teases Tieria, the man who had strong feelings for Neil, making him realize that Lyle is not his brother. Then there was a scene with Feldt, a bridge bunny who'd had a crush on Neil. Lyle immediately came on to her like a lecherous dirtbag, earning himself a slap and distance from Feldt. He even states as much after Haro accuses him of striking out: "I only opened her eyes."

However, it was just a facade, as stated previously. Lyle is actually a fairly decent guy. And there's a reason why he feels he needs to differentiate himself from his brother. While Neil would always put everything he had toward something, Lyle rarely tried hard at anything. As a result, Neil accomplished more and then got more praise than Lyle. This led to resentment, which in turn led to estrangement. (Lyle tells Anew that he moved into the school dormitories so that he wouldn't have to face constant comparison to Neil at home.) Since then, Lyle has always tried to assert himself as a unique person.

This same lack of commitment also saves Lyle from the fate that dooms his brother. After the KPSA terrorist attack that killed the rest of the Dylandy family, Neil was unable to let it go and swore to get revenge -- if he couldn't find its mastermind, Ali al-Saachez, he'd settle for ending terrorism. But when Ali did appear, it was too much for Neil to resist, and he got himself killed pursuing vengeance. Lyle, however, has since moved on from the deaths of his parents and sister. He'd love to see Ali get what he deserves, but he's not intent on carrying it out himself...at first.

But we see that Lyle does duel with revenge over the course of the series, after he loses his girlfriend, Anew Returner, in battle at Setsuna's hands, and Ali starts appearing again. In both circumstances, Lyle comes face-to-face with revenge -- he has a clear shot at Setsuna's back at one point shortly after he killed Anew, and he has Ali incapable of resisting with, again, a gun pointed at his back. During these scenes, it's apparent that the temptation for revenge is very powerful in Lyle's mind -- he even admits it himself, when he says that he feels the same way that his brother did while he has Ali at gunpoint. But both times, he resists it. He understands that Setsuna did what he felt he had to do to keep Lyle alive and his Gundam from falling into the hands of the enemy. And with Ali, Lyle gives him a second chance, even though it only lasts half a second -- because Ali grabs his gun again and tries to shoot him. In that half second, Lyle realizes that Ali is irredeemable and was about to try to kill him, and so Lyle kills Ali not out of revenge but out of a combination of his duty as a Gundam Meister and as an act of self-defense.

Despite his general lack of commitment, though, Lyle is just as good as, or even better than, his brother when he does commit to something. As the season progresses, Lyle becomes more committed to his role as a Gundam Meister, and his skills in battle improve. Of particular note are the assault on the first Memento Mori, where Lyle fires the precision shot at the laser's weak spot to destroy it, and his final exchange with Revive Revival in the final episode, where he uses his last remaining second of Trans-Am to get the drop on and kill Revive. When it comes down to it, Lyle is a capable man when lives are at stake, and he is able to think on his feet.

Otherwise, off the battlefield, as mentioned before, he's a good guy. Most of the time he's relatively laid-back and likes to talk to people casually. Like his brother, he's not shy about giving out his true name, either. At the very least, Anew, Sumeragi, and the other Gundam Meisters all know his true name, if not the entire crew of the Ptolemaios II. And he believes in freedom and peace. He joined Katharon because the A-LAWS were committing atrocities in the name of justice, and then joined Celestial Being to help Katharon fulfill their goal of getting the A-LAWS disbanded. And after that, he chose to remain with Celestial Being so as to keep the peace, and leaped back into action with no hesitation when the ELS appeared. So long as everything is peaceful and people are free to do what they want, he's satisfied.

Third-Person: "This is Lockon Stratos in Gundam Zabanya. Targeted and firing!"

Gundam Zabanya rocketed out of the ship's hangar and into the skies. Lockon then proceeded to put it through its paces by performing various maneuvers and firing a handful of shots.

To Lockon, being able to do this was a huge relief. There was no more need to sit out on major missions that would require machinery. No more need to work as a radio operator aboard a B-52. The research team had finally finished researching and analyzing Zabanya's solar reactor, and he could now use it with impunity. It had been like being forced to drive a Model T after learning to drive on a modern Indy car, but for Lockon, it was finally time to suit up and race again.

Which was why Lockon was making a conscious effort to enjoy himself out there. He flew patterns with no rhyme or reason, just because he actually could. Zabanya performed loops, pivots, and even upside-down maneuvers, with less regard for G-forces than normal. Of course, Lockon didn't want to harm himself, so he avoided pulling maneuvers that would mess with his blood flow too much, but he was nevertheless more liberal about that sort of thing than he normally would be. After all, he was back.

Eventually, the call came for him to return. Lockon finished his last maneuver and swung the Zabanya around, flying back to the ship. "Well, boys, I'd say that was a success," he remarked, smiling, to the two Haros docked beside him. "It's been a long time, but we're finally back in business!"
